Saving on Subscription Service Costs

Saving on Subscription Service Costs

It’s easy to sign up and commit to monthly subscription services that fit your interests.  However, the cost of subscription services can be pricey, especially if you have more than one or if you forget about them.

Here are some simple ways to save on your subscription services.

  • Take advantage of free trials. They may be as short as one week or up to 30 days.  But don’t forget to cancel if the subscription doesn’t retain its value.  I set a reminder in my phone a couple days ahead of the expiration date to remind me to cancel or not.
  • Search for coupons or offer codes. Many subscription services may offer coupons that reduce the cost.  Visit the service’s website for recurring deals or simply Google for it.
  • Negotiate your monthly payments. Let the customer service department know you love the service but are looking to simplify your expenses.  Often this will escalate your account to their client retention department where you just might be offered amazing discounts.
  • Consider not subscribing in the first place. The fact is, subscription services aren’t a necessity for many people. It may seem difficult to go without your latest delivery but many of these services can be found for cheaper or free – if you’re willing to go without the convenience.

It can be difficult to measure how these costs add up over time.  I would recommend keeping a list of all ongoing subscription costs, monitor how you use them, and then terminate your account if it’s not being used. Remember, these services will most likely stick around, so you can always resubscribe when you want to use them again.
